Blogging

October 30, 2009 | Leave a Comment

blog boardWhy blog, took a quick google on that question and ten minutes of reading about “Thinking writing, presentation writing, Learning writing” I decided to return later and see how I am “supposed to do this”. This is my 42nd post for the hitchhikers out there in the galaxy, so I will explain why I do this blog. Any second now it will come to me…………any second now………soon……

I really have not a clue why I do this, but I decided to do it for a year, mon to fri, yeah just like a real job! and see what happens. Politics make me want to vent but there is a whole lot more to life and living than governance. There’s, aaaah……. Oh yeah Red wine, Sex, blue skies, doggies and roast duck. that’s all……maybe more but that’s for another day.

So I will diverge, go on tangents, write about any goddamm thing that comes into my head and then try and write about things that had never occurred to me before, and then some poetry, No NO NO, only joking…………..!

Cowen Climate Guru

Taoiseach Brian Cowen would be directly responsible for cutting Ireland’s greenhouse gases, under draft laws published today. The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security called for a climate change law ahead of a major UN environmental summit in Copenhagen in December.

Any niggling doubts that the whole climate change debate was anything but just that, a debate, and still ongoing have finally been put to rest. If Brian Cowen backs it then there is definitely no Global warming, in fact it means that an ice-age is on the way. Better see about more insulation and some snow-shoes, maybe ski’s too, no mountains in the Midlands, maybe a sledge with a sail, or maybe some reindeer. “I’m dreamin’  of a white Christmas…..

This is not really an Irish tax, nor an EU tax, it is as close as we can get to a World tax called carbon tax, the warming bit is the politicians and quangos rubbing their hands with Al Gore at the head of them thinking of doing a version of “Aldolf Gitler on ice”

Facebook

October 28, 2009 | Leave a Comment

facebookFacebook is going to keep their dead facebookers online. Personally I will not be found dead on facebook, but for those that will, well, will anybody notice? How about a computer programme that continues to spout crap and useless information about yourself ad infinitum until somebody notices that you are now 156 yo. I am really not so sure that anyone on facebook has a life so how could they die anyway?

Ping Pong

I think I am going to move to Sweden, pursue a life in crime and when apprehended, take my sentence like a man, do hard time….and play ping pong, hopefully hurt my pinkie and sue the State for injury! The inmate was paid 18,300 kronor, that’s about €1,800 and it was his little finger, “Ouch” that hurts like hell when you whack it off a ping pong table! He had to wear a plastic splint for ten weeks as it was tender and swollen. WTF! No compensation for the psychological damage caused by this terrifying violent incident in a prison? What about his game, did it not suffer as a consequence? How unfair Swedish society is when a poor criminal is down on his luck and hurts his little finger?

EssayonliberationOn another story from Sweden, a library book was returned after 37 years, it was returned to the shelves after an anonymous package was left outside the library door. In Ireland the bomb squad would have been called and robots sent in to investigate, anyway I digress!!! The book, “An Essay on Liberation” by German Marxist philosopher Herbert Marcuse (1898 – 1979) posed this question so it could well have taken 37 years to figure out the answer, I am still trying to answer it….

“The question is no longer: how can the individual satisfy his own needs without hurting others, but rather: how can he satisfy his needs without hurting himself, without reproducing, through his aspirations and satisfactions, his dependence on an exploitative apparatus which, in satisfying his needs, perpetuates his servitude?”

On the other hand he may have been imprisoned playing ping pong for this period.

The White Ribbon

The White Ribbon is a film by Austrian Director Michael Haneke that portrays a German village in 1913 and 1914, shortly before the beginning of World War I, in which mysterious acts of violence occur. The human relationships in the village are deeply troubled. There are no heroes, and there is no salvation. It shows the children as cold and cruel and Haneke has said that no children are innocent, the idea of innocence is projected by parents onto their children. The film suggests how the roots of fascism were instilled in the children through the values and education they received. It questions the conformity we demand as a society from children and when this conformity goes wrong just what results. We can often bemoan the lack of skills our kids are taught in schools but do we ever question the skills they are taught?
